Ben played with the PMHA Male Buffaloes during the 2016-2017 season and billeted with the Gelo family. Ben picked up 23 goals and 33 assists for 56 points. Hilhorst also had 80 penalty minutes. Ben was named the CSSHL’s Top Defenceman during the league playoffs in Penticton.

During the 2017-2018, and 2018-2019 season Ben played with the Neepawa Natives of the MJHL. During the 2019-20 season, he was traded to the OCN Blizzard, and was later named the Captain of the Blizzard.
