PMHA ANNOUNCES 2021/22 COACHING STAFF

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy is pleased to announce that we have a FULL Coaching complement for all three Pilot Mound Hockey Academy teams for the 2021-2022 season.

We are thrilled to be able to report that all of our existing coaching staff plan to make a return to the ice in the fall and there are also some new faces coming on board.

PMHA is excited to get the new year started with the dynamic coaching staff. We are also looking forward to being able to continue the Pilot Mound Hockey Academy’s success in providing the opportunity and experience for our 60 Student-Athletes to learn and grow at PMHA, both on and off of the ice.

PMHA announces the addition of a great team of the Coaching Staff for the newly formed, U15 Male Program. Kyle Nixon is named as Head Coach, with Assistant Coach Danny Carels completing the coaching team.

Kyle comes to PMHA from Stonewall, where he has been a Physical Education Teacher. Kyle has also spent the last 7 years being part of the Coaching Staff for the Charleswood Hawks of the MMJHL. For over a decade, Kyle has been the Head Coach of the High School Hockey Team for SCI. Kyle holds a degree in Phys Ed and Education while most recently attaining his Master`s in education “Coaching Studies” with the University of Victoria. Kyle played at the MMJHL Level, being named Defenseman of the Year and also named as one of the top ten all-time players. PMHA is excited for Kyle to be a part of the development and growth of our newest program. He brings his talent as a coach and his many skills as a mentor for our U15 Student-Athletes; we can’t wait for him to get started.

Rounding out the coaching staff for the U15 program is Danny Carels. Danny grew up and continues to raise cattle at the farm near Cypress River. Danny is well known in our local hockey world, having coached and played in Holland, in his minor hockey, and throughout the area, finishing off his playing with the Swan Lake Cougars. He brings with him the knowledge and experience of his coaching the AA Pembina West Bantam team for the past 5 years. Danny is part of the Carels & Carels skill development camps and is a talented skills instructor. The PMHA U15 Student-Athletes will benefit from this dedicated skill development coaching style.

PMHA is also very happy to announce that Cassidy Carels will join Coach Brad Platt in a co-coaching role for the U18 Female Program. Cassidy is also a well-known hockey player and coach in our local hockey area. Having played all of her minor hockey in Holland, she moved on to play for the Pembina Valley Midget Female AAA Midget team, winning multiple championships with them. In 2013, Cassidy played on the U18 Canadian National Team, winning gold at the Worlds. Cassidy attended Providence College on a D1 Scholarship where she obtained her education degree. At this point, Cassidy decided to return home to pursue her teaching career. For the past 2 seasons, Cassidy has been the Assistant Coach of the Pembina Valley Hawks AAA Bantam team. We are super excited to have her join the coaching staff, bringing her love of the game, knowledge of small community living, and coaching and teaching skills to the ice with Brad.

PMHA would also like to acknowledge how happy we are to have our talented, experienced, and dedicated coaching staff returning next season. Rick McConnell will head the U17 Male program, with long-standing assistant coach Ernie Sutherland completing the team. Brad Platt is once again at the helm for the U18 Female Program.

2020-2021 has been a challenging year. We began with the excitement of playing within the CSSHL Prep Divisions and unfortunately play was not to be. We know 2021-22 will bring an exceptional year of skill development and competition for all of the PMHA teams and their coaches.

The recruitment process for all teams is ongoing, with a good number of players already signed. We will once again be seeing a wide range of player hometowns on our rosters, from local home-grown talent to points across Canada and the USA and as far away as Taiwan.

PMHA looks forward to a return to play and most of all to bringing some great PMHA hockey entertainment to the Black Jack Stewart Arena in the fall. See you at the Arena!
