Pilot Mound Hockey Academy is excited to announce the coaching staff for the Female U18 Prep team for the upcoming season. We are proud to have Ryan Carels and Kirt Fortney leading the program, bringing their dedication and expertise to the development of our student-athletes.
Ryan Carels, head coach, hails from Cypress River, Manitoba, and has a deep-rooted passion for hockey. His playing career began in the Holland minor hockey system and progressed through the AAA Pembina Valley Hawks during his midget years. Ryan’s leadership and skill earned him MVP honors in high school and Rookie of the Year recognition in the Tiger Hills Senior Hockey League. Transitioning into coaching, Ryan has been instrumental in developing young talent, running skills camps, and building successful programs such as the U15 AA Bantam Program. His commitment to fostering growth and excellence makes him a valuable asset to Pilot Mound Hockey Academy.
Kirt Fortney, assistant coach, brings a wealth of experience from both his playing and coaching career. Originally from Nemaska, Quebec, Kirt played his minor hockey in Alberta before advancing to junior hockey with the Princeton Posse and Golden Rockets in the KIJHL, where he served as an assistant captain for both teams. Kirt continued his hockey journey with the University of Oregon Ducks (ACHA), where he contributed to three consecutive PAC 8 championships and helped the team transition to Division I in the ACHA. Kirt holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Business and Marketing with a minor in Mathematics, and his coaching experience spans U5 to U18 levels. His dedication to skill development and mentorship aligns perfectly with the values of Pilot Mound Hockey Academy.
With Ryan and Kirt at the helm, the Female U18 Prep team is set for a season of growth, development, and success. Their leadership and passion will inspire our athletes to excel both on and off the ice.
