PMHA Announces Coach for Female U18 Prep Program

PMHA is pleased to announce that Kirt Fortney and Jared Petitto will be taking over the U18 Female Prep team as co-coaches effective immediately.

Jared is joining us with experience in coaching from Virginia, Maine, Massachusetts, and Utah. After Jared completed his minor hockey career in Woodbridge, VA as a goalie, he attended Slippery Rock University (ACHA D1) and obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, with a minor in Business Marketing. He then began his Master’s degree in Sports Management while playing at Cleveland State University (ACHA D2). Jared began his coaching career in a learn-to-play hockey program and increased his experience to bantam, prep, and junior-level hockey while coaching both male and female players. Notably, Jared comes to PMHA with prep academy experience after coaching at both Bridgeton Academy and Boston Academy. During his time at Bridgeton Academy, the team had its best season in school history by capturing the Fabello Powell Cup, Maine Prep Cup, and the United Tier 1 Hockey Playoffs.

Kirt, an already familiar face in Pilot Mound, comes to PMHA with experience in coaching U5-U18 from Nemaska, Quebec. Kirt learned to skate in Lynn Lake, MB before moving to Alberta where he played all his minor hockey. During the spring Kirt turned his attention from hockey player to roller hockey goalie. In roller hockey, Kirt played in two Alberta Summer Games (winning silver), and playing for Team Alberta. In Kirt’s final year of U18 AA hockey, he played his longest playoff game ever. It took until the 5th overtime before they finally won. That year his team made it to the league and provincial finals. After graduating Kirt played three years of junior hockey with the Princeton Posse and the Golden Rockets (KIJHL) and became assistant captain with both teams. In 2018 Kirt signed with the University of Oregon Ducks (ACHA). During his time in Oregon, the team won three consecutive PAC 8 Championships which resulted in the team’s ability to move up into Division 1 in the ACHA. Kirt was selected to participate in the All-Star tournament, was named assistant captain before his sophomore season, and became president of the hockey team for club sports during his junior and senior seasons. Kirt graduated from Oregon with a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Business and Marketing and a minor in Mathematics.

Coach Aimee Ramage and Coach Brooke Gelo will continue to be a presence on the team through participation in a practice rotation and catching as many games behind the bench as possible.

We would like to welcome both Kirt and Jared into their co-coaching roles. We are looking forward to watching the team continue to develop and move forward toward success this season.
